Stan Pearl and his wife Anne Christy in France for the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. You can read Stan’s article about the trip and the history of UTS alumni who were part of the effort in the Fall 2014 Root Alumni Magazine on pages 14-17.
Stan Pearl GP ’21, ’23, served as UTS Principal from 1995 to 2000 and has been championing the UTS mission for almost three decades as an advocate, volunteer and donor.
As a member of the Honorary Campaign Cabinet for the Building the Future campaign, Stan lent his time and financial support because he believes that UTS students will be able to accomplish even more with the facilities that support innovation and create more opportunities for interpersonal connections.
Stan has made a bequest intention for UTS in his will and is a loyal annual donor – he gives because he thinks his support “directly influences the wellbeing of Canada” citing accomplishments and developments in research, and the economy by alumni spread across the world. He is happy to help talented young people who will go on to make a difference in the world and hopes others will join him with their support of UTS students.
Stan notes that an exceptional curriculum and superb teacher instruction inspire UTS students’ intellectual curiosity before and after they graduate. He also notes the myriad co-curricular opportunities at UTS, which nurture and build on students’ individual strengths and propel them to great achievements, joking that “students learn more in the hallway than they do in the classroom”. He reflects on the inspiring academic and career accomplishments of so many alumni.
Stan feels strongly that the personal connections made at UTS are one of the things that make it so special and unique. He recalls that during his time as Principal, he developed bonds not only with students, parents and colleagues but also with the alumni who came together to celebrate their anniversaries and support the school. Stan continues to honour and cherish the friendships he has made in the UTS community and looks forward to joining the Annual Alumni Dinner every year to renew and celebrate his life-long bonds in the community.
