Two years ago, on December 12, 2018, more than a dozen UTS alumni, students, staff and partners braved the winter wind under a grey sky, donning hard hats and picking up shovels to break ground on our renewed building at 371 Bloor. Now the renewed building has reached its full height, the construction crew is increasingly turning their efforts to the space within, and we are thrilled to be entering our final year of construction together!
This journey is only possible because of you, and your support for this school. With the structure firmly in place, work on the modern conveniences of heating and cooling is underway. An important milestone took place December 8, where many of the large mechanical units were lifted safely by a large crane to the rooftop mechanical penthouse, including the chiller and boiler expansion tanks.
The auditorium steel is now complete with the roof beams, catwalks and third floor balconies in place, and within the next month, the priority is closing in the auditorium. Masonry work is mostly complete on the lower levels, and ongoing in the basement, the elevator shaft and upper floors.
When we first broke ground, it seemed so far away, but soon, everything we’ve been working for, dreaming of and imagining, will be a reality. UTS students and staff will return to a school that is better than ever before and go on to even greater achievements, fostered by surroundings we can be proud to call home.
