Every day, our renewed building looks a little more polished, as it becomes closer to being ready for our return!
The concrete floor and lower rows of the Withrow Auditorium are smooth and clean, with indentations in place to hold the seating that will soon grace this expansive space. Electrical finishes in the Science classrooms are nearly complete, ready to empower UTS students to new heights of science experimentation. Lab benches are also in place in the Biology and Ewens Chemistry labs. All the sinks are installed in the Science and Art rooms – and there is just one remaining countertop to go!
In the vibrant new heart of our school, the Fleck Atrium, the wooden veneer finish on the Learning Stairs is now installed, bringing a sense of lightness to this communal space, where students will soon gather together to discuss issues from class and around the world.
The plans for our students to return this March are still in place. The commissioning process continues, with fire alarm verification expected to be completed today. But as we’ve learned, the one constant of COVID is change, and COVID-19 related construction absences and supply chain delays could potentially have an impact.
However, we remain undaunted, ready to adapt plans as the pandemic evolves, and cautiously optimistic that soon our students will return home to a UTS like never before.
Our vision is so close to reality now. The magnitude of change and the vital sense of possibilities that lie ahead for our students in our inspiring new home is just around the corner. We hope that soon, you will be able to come and see what all the excitement is about!
