Electricity is now travelling through transformers in the basement of the old building at 371 Bloor Street West. From there, it extends sequentially to different sections of our renewed building to allow for some very important things to happen.
The ‘powering on’ of the restored building allows for the mechanical, electrical and safety systems to operate and be tested. On the roof, the electricity operates our air handling system, which circulates fresh air, heating and cooling. Water pumps, thermostats and smoke detectors are all being powered on, getting us that much closer to having full environmental systems in place for the return of vibrant school life.
Outside, we are literally paving the way for this return. On the Living Laneway, the paving stones are almost all set, creating an entryway that makes our school accessible for everyone.
Inside, chalkboards already adorn the walls of some classrooms, ready for the day students will solve complex mathematical problems in these spaces – all they need is furniture and the picture will be complete! Millwork in the Strings Music Classroom is being installed, as well as in the Lang Innovation Lab. Soon, there will be students here, creating, experimenting and exploring together in the true UTS tradition of pushing boundaries, building community and doing our best, for ourselves and the world.
